On the afternoon of March 7, 2022, the Institute of Geophysical Exploration held an internal review meeting for the shale gas exploration project in the Changning Block, which is based on wide-area electromagnetic methods, in Conference Room 1409. Attending the meeting were experts and leaders including Professor Wang Xuben from Chengdu University of Technology, Expert Wang Lansheng from the Southwest Branch of PetroChina, Chief Expert Yang Keming from the Southwest Branch of Sinopec, Senior Engineer at the professorial level Yu Qian from the Chengdu Geological Survey Center of the China Geological Survey, Professor Li Diquan from Central South University, and Senior Engineer at the professorial level Yin Zhongshan from the Sichuan Provincial Institute of Geological Survey. Also in attendance were Zhang Guangda, Chairman and General Manager of the Institute of Geophysical Exploration, and Gu Zhiwen, Deputy General Manager and Chief Engineer. The meeting was chaired by Yu Changheng, Deputy General Manager and Chief Financial Officer of the Institute of Geophysical Exploration.

At the internal review meeting, Gu Zhiwen first presented a project results PPT to the experts, introducing the project overview, data analysis, data collection, data processing, and interpretation of the results. After carefully listening to the presentation, experts and leaders including Wang Xuben engaged in technical discussions with the project’s technical staff and expressed their appreciation for the achievements of this geophysical exploration work.

At the meeting, the internal audit experts put forward five recommendations: First, establish a correlation among core measurements, well logging data, and wide-area resistivity data; second, further integrate and overlay well data and geological data with wide-area results to validate the identification methods and delineate favorable areas for shale gas exploration in wide-area surveys; third, leverage deep learning techniques to build model databases for different blocks; fourth, explore methodologies for route planning and conduct research on the causes of low resistivity as part of the next steps; fifth, further enhance the content of the report and strive for an award.

Finally, under the chairmanship of Wang Xuben, the head of the review panel of experts, the internal audit expert opinions were formulated. The experts concluded that this work complied with the procedural and technical requirements, yielding high-quality raw data; the geological and comprehensive analyses were scientifically sound, with views and conclusions generally accurate and results highly reliable, thus successfully completing the geological tasks. The attending experts unanimously agreed to pass the review!

After the review meeting, Zhang Guangda expressed his gratitude to all the review experts, noting that their insights had provided us with a valuable lesson and played an important guiding role in enhancing the processing and interpretation capabilities of the geophysical exploration company’s wide-area electromagnetic method.
