Labor creates a better life, and striving paves the way for the future. During the “May Day” International Labor Day holiday, construction sites for key projects at the Geophysical Exploration Institute are bustling with intense activity. Instruments and equipment are operating at full capacity, and project team members are sweating profusely under the scorching sun. They remain steadfast at their posts, prioritizing safety and ensuring steady, solid progress to uphold quality—welcoming the arrival of the holiday with concrete actions and tangible results.

01 Chongqing West Qitangchang Project

As dawn was just breaking, a group of technicians dressed in red were already holding their pre-shift meeting.

May Day

Speaking now is He Hongsen, the team leader of the wide-area data acquisition group at the Yu-Xi Qitang Field of the Sichuan Institute of Resource Geophysics. Addressing his team members, he said, “The key to a successful day lies in the morning. If we rise an hour earlier each day, we can collect data for one additional survey line. Now that the weather is gradually warming up, we’ll take breaks during the scorching midday hours. We’ll make time in the early morning and late evening—ensuring both safety and adherence to the project schedule. For the sake of our nation’s shale gas development, our exploration work simply cannot lag behind!”

Zhang Xingcheng, the leader of the launch team, also arrived at his post early to conduct routine inspections of the power-generation equipment and carry out a full-line patrol of the power lines and safety warning signs. He said, “I have to finish the pre-shift meeting, inspect and maintain the power-generation equipment before the instrument team arrives at the collection point. I can’t afford to wait for the instrument team—only they can afford to wait for me.”

The various teams working on the Yu-Xi Qitangchang wide-area project are enthusiastically and actively devoting themselves to their respective tasks. With their concrete actions, they are putting into practice the principle that “labor is glorious.” They transform simple tasks into extraordinary achievements and turn ordinary activities into remarkable ones, allowing the passion of youth to shine brilliantly across the land of our motherland.

During the May Day holiday, the leadership of the Geophysical Exploration Institute also joined forces with members of the Yuxi Project Team to work tirelessly on the front lines.

02 North China Oil and Gas Project

This is the second time this year that the geophysical exploration institute’s project team has entered the Ordos Basin.

During the May Day holiday, the geophysical exploration institute’s North China Oil and Gas Wide-Area Electromagnetic Fracturing Monitoring Project Team remained steadfast at their frontline posts, working tirelessly in the Dongsheng Gas Field and Daniudi Gas Field in North China.

To date, fracturing monitoring tasks have been completed for six wells. Fracturing monitoring has been successfully carried out on target formations of various lithologies, including tight sandstone, limestone, and coal seams, and the monitoring results have been submitted. This work provides technical support for fracturing stimulation of tight sandstone gas and coalbed methane reservoirs, selection of fracturing technologies, determination of operational parameters, and enhancement of overall recovery rates.

03 Guangzhou Nansha Project

The work area of the geophysical exploration project for urban flood prevention and drainage pipeline networks in Nansha District, Guangzhou City, is located on major municipal roads in Dagang Town, where traffic volume is relatively high. Under the safety supervision and management of the client and the project team, field personnel are equipped with safety helmets, reflective vests, and commonly used medications. Meanwhile, cone-shaped warning barrels and warning tapes have been set up around the construction sites to ensure the safety of field workers and to guide passing vehicles, thereby preventing traffic congestion.

This project has a tight schedule. To ensure construction quality and the smooth progress of work, the project team organized multiple study sessions before the holiday and also conducted technical exchanges with the client regarding project progress and quality.

During the May Day holiday, traffic volume on municipal roads increased. Considering the safety of field personnel, we decided to suspend outdoor construction activities and focus instead on data processing. In addition, the project team conducted a comprehensive safety inspection of living quarters, thoroughly checking areas prone to safety hazards such as water, electricity, and fire. We are approaching the May Day holiday with a cautious and vigilant attitude.

04 Changning Fracturing Monitoring Project

As the May Day Labor Day approaches, the Changning Fracturing Monitoring Team has just successfully completed its fracturing monitoring work on eight wells at Platform 32 and immediately received a new monitoring assignment for Platform 30. The team promptly relocated to Platform 30. These wells on Platform 30 represent the fourth batch of wells under the framework fracturing monitoring contract for the Changning area, which was awarded to the Geophysical Exploration Institute for the 2023-2024 period. The primary purpose of this monitoring effort is to provide reference data for evaluating the effectiveness of fracturing in the new wells and assessing the impact of fracturing operations on the production of older wells already operating on the same platform.
