On June 14, Zhang Guangda, Secretary of the Party Branch, Chairman of the Board, and General Manager of the Sichuan Institute of Geophysical Exploration, along with his delegation, traveled to Changsha, Hunan Province, where they joined the academician He Jishan’s team at a partner exchange meeting on the oil and gas sector hosted by Hunan Jishan High-Tech Co., Ltd. The meeting brought together more than 50 participants from 16 organizations, including well-known domestic geophysical exploration companies as well as universities and research institutes such as Southwest Petroleum University and Northeast Petroleum University.

In the field of fracture monitoring for oil and gas development, the Institute of Geophysical Exploration and Jishan High-Tech first initiated a collaboration on wide-area fracture monitoring technology in 2019, making them the very first partner to do so. As the pioneering unit in this area, the two sides have been collaborating for five years already. Their cooperation has evolved from the initial Fracture Monitoring 1.0 technology to the more advanced Fracture Monitoring 2.0 technology; the monitoring instruments and equipment have also progressed from 16-channel and 48-channel systems to 72-channel systems, witnessing the entire evolution of the technology. This collaboration has led to mutual benefits, win-win outcomes, and shared development. To date, they have conducted fracture monitoring on more than 60 wells, and by the end of 2022, their cumulative output value had exceeded 50 million yuan, achieving significant social impact and economic value. At the award ceremony honoring outstanding partners, the Institute of Geophysical Exploration was honored with the title of “Gold Partner of the 2022-2023 Year.”

At the exchange meeting, Yu Changheng, Deputy General Manager of the Geophysical Exploration Institute, highlighted the Institute’s recent efforts to establish young innovation and technology studios. These studios have been focusing on technological breakthroughs in methods such as wide-area electromagnetic fracturing monitoring. Using specific projects as a platform, the Institute has timely applied its research findings to practical applications, achieving innovative results in the field of wide-area electromagnetic fracturing monitoring. Mr. Yu also outlined the Institute’s plans for the next phase of work. Through continuous innovation and optimization, the wide-area electromagnetic fracturing monitoring method has become a key highlight of the Institute’s fracturing monitoring technology, delivering significant technical advances in areas including real-time guidance during construction, comprehensive evaluation of monitoring effectiveness, analysis and optimization of engineering parameters, and tracking of monitoring results alongside gas production.

The participating experts and scholars also engaged in in-depth exchanges on the latest advances in instrument research, progress in three-dimensional monitoring and integrated seismoelectric technology for fracture monitoring, research and advancements in borehole-to-surface electromagnetic methods, as well as integrated geological engineering platforms and their applications. They fully affirmed the technical support role played by wide-area fracture monitoring in oil and gas development, noting that wide-area fracture monitoring provides synchronous guidance for fracturing operations in oil and gas wells and plays a crucial role in adjusting construction plans.

In the next phase of work, the Institute of Geophysical Exploration will continue to collaborate with universities and research institutes under the Group’s mineral exploration strategy, helping more scientific and technological achievements move from “laboratories” to “real-world applications.” Leveraging the technological hub provided by the Academician and Expert Workstations as a platform, we will seek breakthroughs and contribute our expertise in resource geophysics to Sichuan’s new round of mineral exploration, reserve enhancement, and production increase.
