Embarking on a New Journey—Lantai Writes a New Chapter | The Geophysical Exploration Institute Organizes a Thematic Archive Promotion Event Titled “Archives: Vessels of History, Continuities of the Future”
June 9 is the annual International Archives Day, and it also marks the 16th “International Archives Day” awareness campaign in China. To commemorate this special day, further enhance staff awareness of archives, popularize archival knowledge, and promote archival culture, the Institute of Geophysical Exploration recently held an archival awareness campaign in Chengdu, themed “Archives—The Vessel of History, the Continuity of the Future.”
This special thematic event will focus on two main aspects of publicity: First, the “Archives: Past and Present” exhibition area, which will use display boards and banners to educate employees about the archives’ history, legal framework, knowledge, and various applications. Second, the “Geophysical Exploration—A Decade of Glory” memory exhibition, featuring nearly a hundred archival photographs that chronicle the development journey of the Geophysical Exploration Institute. For veteran geophysicists, this is a deeply etched and pride-filled memory; for newer members of the institute, it represents a history worth remembering and learning from.
Taking this thematic archival promotion campaign as an opportunity, the Geophysical Exploration Institute has made arrangements for the next phase of archival management work based on actual conditions. First, we will refine the requirements for filing documents and materials; second, we will clarify the scope of filing and the retention periods; third, we will strictly enforce the deadlines for filing various types of archival materials; fourth, we will improve the system for accessing and borrowing archives; and fifth, we will clearly designate the department responsible for archival management.
Through a series of promotional activities, the staff and workers of the Geophysical Exploration Institute have gained a deeper understanding of archival work, and support for archival preservation efforts has been further strengthened, thereby achieving the intended publicity effect and impact of “International Archives Day.”
