Recently, the project “Key Technologies and Engineering Applications for Efficient Detection of Water and Grouting Treatment in Water-Rich Mountain Tunnels,” in which the Institute of Geophysical Exploration participated, was awarded the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress by the China Transportation Association for 2022. This marks the first time that the Institute of Geophysical Exploration has won an award in this field.

The China Transportation Association Science and Technology Award, approved by the Office of National Science and Technology Awards, is designed to recognize organizations and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to scientific and technological progress in China’s transportation sector. It is a significant science and technology award aimed at relevant industries nationwide.

The project “Key Technologies for Efficient Water Detection and Grouting Treatment in Water-Rich Tunnel Construction—With Engineering Applications” has addressed critical technical challenges faced in the construction of water-rich tunnels, including difficulties in detection, localization, and treatment. The project has achieved three major innovative breakthroughs. The research results have been awarded 14 national invention patents and 11 copyrights for computer software. A total of 23 academic papers have been published (16 indexed by SCI and 2 by EI). The project’s findings have been incorporated into the “Code for Curtain Grouting in Mines.” An expert panel led by Academician Liu Jiaping unanimously evaluated that the project’s outcomes as a whole have reached an internationally advanced level. In particular, the multi-scale, multi-parameter joint inversion theory, the air-ground joint inversion analysis method constrained by multi-well and cross-gradient techniques, and the end-sealing water-based polyurethane prepolymer-cement composite grouting material have all attained internationally leading standards.

In recent years, the Institute of Geophysical Exploration has achieved a series of innovative breakthroughs in technological development and the research, development, and application of new equipment. Moving forward, the Institute will continue to stimulate scientific and technological innovation, play a leading role as a pilot unit for technology promotion, and steadily enhance its capabilities in scientific and technological innovation and system-level solutions, thereby contributing to the vigorous development of Sichuan’s resource exploration endeavors through technological innovation.
