The joint research project between the Institute of Geophysical Exploration and the Research & Development Institute of the Southwest Oil & Gas Field Branch of CNPC has officially been launched.
Recently, the “Changxing Formation and Maokou Formation Gas-Water Identification Project” jointly tackled by the Institute of Geophysical Exploration and the Research & Development Institute of the Southwest Oil & Gas Field Branch of CNPC was officially launched. Centered on wide-area electromagnetic technology, this project conducts research focusing on digital modeling, acquisition parameter testing, and processing and interpretation methods, with the aim of establishing a highly efficient and accurate gas-water identification technology system and laying the foundation for solving the gas-water identification challenges in this region by 2026.
The Sichuan Basin is an important natural gas-producing region in China, but... Changxing Formation The Maokou Formation reservoir features complex geological conditions and an ambiguous distribution of gas and water, which have been hindering the efficient exploration and development of natural gas in this region. This joint research effort focuses precisely on this critical challenge, adopting a combined approach that integrates high-precision digital modeling with field testing. By optimizing parameters and innovating processing and interpretation methods, the team aims to break through the limitations of conventional techniques and enhance the accuracy and efficiency of gas-water identification.
This collaboration highlights the synergistic strengths of both parties in exploration technology R&D and oil-and-gas field practices. Moving forward, the Institute of Geophysical Exploration will continue to leverage its specialized technical expertise, relentlessly pursue breakthroughs in key exploration technologies, and provide robust scientific and technological support for the efficient development of China’s natural gas resources and the secure guarantee of energy supplies, thereby helping the Group achieve high-quality development in the energy exploration sector.
