Deepen the application of new geophysical exploration technologies and jointly open up new horizons in oil and gas exploration.
On May 29, the Institute of Geophysical Exploration held a technical exchange seminar with the Shale Gas Exploration and Development Project Department of Chuanqing Drilling Company. Both sides engaged in an in-depth discussion on topics including secondary development and densification well exploration for shale gas wells, gas-water identification, and fracture monitoring in the oil and gas sector. By focusing on technological highlights, they addressed the key challenges in oil and gas exploration and development and jointly promoted the innovative application of electromagnetic technologies.

During the event, the Geophysical Exploration Institute showcased its innovative achievements in recent years in the oil and gas exploration field, with a particular focus on its technological reserves, breakthroughs, and engineering applications in areas such as holographic electromagnetic methods and wide-area electromagnetic methods for fracture monitoring. Experts from Chuanqing highly praised the Institute’s accumulated achievements and technological advancements. In light of the practical challenges faced in shale gas development—such as complex geological structures and highly heterogeneous reservoirs—they proposed using holographic electromagnetic methods to monitor the entire development process and conduct detailed inversion-based evaluations of development outcomes, while employing wide-area electromagnetic methods for on-site operational guidance and parameter optimization. They also expressed an urgent need to introduce more advanced and precise geophysical exploration technologies, especially efficient electromagnetic exploration techniques.
Through this exchange, both sides have further deepened their intention to collaborate. The Geophysical Exploration Institute will join hands with Chuanqing Drilling to jointly promote the practical application and value creation of new technologies in oil and gas exploration and development, thereby providing solid technical support and strong backing for the efficient exploitation of the nation’s oil and gas resources.
