Stay grounded and work meticulously—The Geophysical Exploration Institute Holds the Preliminary Round of the 2024 Employee Vocational Skills Competition.
Diligently honing skills through years of practice, we shine with brilliance on the competition stage. Recently, in order to promote the spirit of craftsmanship, inspire employees’ innovative vitality, enhance their skill levels, and select outstanding skilled talents for the Group’s finals, the trade union of the Geophysical Exploration Institute organized the “2024 Provincial Employee Vocational Skills Competition Qualifying Round.”

This selection competition covers two categories: geological exploration and geological hazard prevention and control. The competition consists of two parts: a theoretical knowledge exam and a practical skills assessment. The theoretical knowledge exam accounts for 30% of the total score, while the practical skills assessment accounts for 70%. Participants engaged in realistic simulations and hands-on training based on actual projects and job roles. More than 30 technical experts enthusiastically took part, showcasing the positive and energetic individual spirit of the geophysical survey institute’s staff as well as the company’s culture of unity and collaboration.

At the theoretical knowledge competition venue, Zou Zhongping, chairman of the institute’s trade union, delivered a pre-exam motivational speech, encouraging the contestants to think actively and answer questions carefully, while also emphasizing strict adherence to examination discipline and striving for outstanding results.

At the actual competition site, the head of the judging panel provided a detailed introduction to the competition rules and evaluation criteria. The contestants then sequentially collected their competition supplies—including geological hammers, compasses, magnifying glasses, and recording charts—and conducted a preliminary survey of the site’s routes and conditions.
The assessment in geological exploration covers the identification of rock and mineral hand specimens, geological route observations, and the drawing of geological profiles. The contestants measured the stratigraphic attitudes along the designated route and conducted on-site drafting of geological profiles.
The assessment criteria for geological disaster prevention and control include conducting surveys, comprehensive studies, and preparing reports on landslide bodies and the surrounding geological environmental conditions. This involves completing detailed maps of field materials, geological outcrops, and records of geological environments and landslide body surveys, ultimately producing a comprehensive research report. Team members, equipped with geological field maps, will collect as much detailed information as possible about the landslide bodies, leveraging their existing knowledge to carry out meticulous and systematic on-site investigations. They will analyze the causes of the disaster, assess the extent of its hazards and impacts, and propose recommendations for prevention and control measures.

Based on the combined rankings from the theoretical exam and the practical operation competition, the top three contestants will represent the Geophysical Exploration Institute in the Group’s 2024 Provincial Employee Vocational Skills Competition.
This selection competition has enhanced the collaborative capabilities among technical personnel within the institute and provided effective practice for the projects soon to be implemented. Moving forward, the Geophysical Exploration Institute will continue to promote staff skills training through diversified training methods and rich content, constantly improving the professional competence and overall capabilities of its technical staff. We aim to build a highly specialized technical team that excels in multiple areas—including geophysical exploration, geological prospecting, and geological hazard prevention—thus supporting the group’s high-quality development and contributing to the province’s efforts to become a resource-rich and resource-strong province.
