The geological exploration iron army pursues its dream in northern China and achieves new outstanding results.
On February 15, 2023, a task assignment from Sinopec North China Oil & Gas Branch was placed before the electromagnetic fracturing monitoring team at the Geophysical Exploration Institute. A development well (Well D1) was scheduled to undergo reservoir fracturing on February 19, and the Geophysical Exploration Institute was requested to provide support by conducting electromagnetic monitoring. Although the work area was located thousands of miles away and time was tight with a heavy workload, the Geophysical Exploration Institute made comprehensive arrangements and promptly dispatched personnel and equipment, arriving at the Well D1 site in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, on February 18 as scheduled and fully preparing for the upcoming monitoring operations.
Deep in the heart of the desert, well D1 is located in the northern part of the Ordos Basin, where temperatures plummeted as low as minus 10 degrees Celsius in February. Behind the rugged, bold, and majestic scenery lies a landscape blanketed in pristine white snow, with bone-chilling winds biting through the air. The few colors visible here are the red work uniforms worn by the geophysical exploration team members.
The first stage of Well D1 will officially begin pressurization on the afternoon of the 19th. Under the leadership of the team leader, team members clearly divided tasks and each took on their respective responsibilities, immediately launching monitoring and deployment activities such as surveying and setting up reference points, deploying field sources, and laying out measurement lines. Thanks to the concerted efforts of all team members, this work was finally completed by the morning of the 19th.
Around 6 p.m., the fracturing operation for Section 1 of Well D1 officially began. Perhaps every beginning is difficult, or maybe good things always take time—whatever the reason, after more than 70 hours of continuous acid replacement operations involving both chemicals and tubing, we finally managed to inject the acid into the formation and kick off the normal fracturing process. The moment the formation was fractured, all the staff in the command vehicle broke into long-lost smiles. For an instant, it felt as though all our efforts had been completely worthwhile.
The fracturing operation for Section 1 was successfully completed at 8:00 a.m. on the 23rd, and the monitoring tasks were also carried out flawlessly. The results—such as fracture length, fracture width, and the area affected by the fracturing fluid—received full recognition from the client and provided effective technical support for subsequent fracturing operations in other well sections.
During the fracturing operations, Party members within the electromagnetic monitoring team took the lead and charged ahead, steadfastly holding their posts and demonstrating their sense of responsibility through concrete actions. They fully leveraged the exemplary and pioneering role of Party officials and cadres, powerfully proving that we are an outstanding team—enthusiastic about getting things done, capable of getting things done, and truly able to deliver results.
Time always brings about many changes, yet in the Ordos Basin, our glorious footprints are destined to remain. With our unwavering commitment and sense of responsibility, we will continue to make the wide-area electromagnetic fracturing monitoring technology shine brightly in the Ordos Basin, and wholeheartedly dedicate our youthful energy to the construction and development of the nation’s oil and gas resources.
