From May 19 to 22, 2024, the “International Workshop on Gravity, Magnetic, and Electromagnetic Methods and Their Applications (GEM 2024 Shenzhen),” co-organized by the Chinese Geophysical Society (CGS) and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and hosted by the Southern University of Science and Technology, was held in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. Liu Jinhui, Director of the Science and Innovation Center at the Institute of Geophysical Exploration, attended the conference and delivered an academic presentation and engaged in exchanges at the international meeting.

This conference is a flagship international symposium jointly organized every four years by the Chinese Geophysical Society (CGS) and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), in accordance with their agreement. To date, it has been held continuously three times—GEM Beijing 2011, GEM Chengdu 2015, and GEM 2019 Xi'an. Experts and scholars from research institutes, enterprises, institutions, and universities across China, as well as from 13 countries and regions, have gathered together to celebrate this grand event. The conference has featured extensive discussions and in-depth exchanges centered on new technologies and methods for geophysical exploration in the fields of environment and new energy.

At the meeting, Liu Jinhui presented his academic paper titled “Application of Combined Modeling and Inversion of Well-Electric-Seismic in Complex Structural Belt of Sichuan Basin” on geophysical exploration for energy resources, and engaged in an in-depth exchange of related findings.

The Institute of Geophysical Exploration has consistently placed great emphasis on scientific and technological innovation and closely follows the cutting-edge geophysical technologies worldwide. Through this conference, the Institute has further strengthened its ties with the Geophysical Society, while also fostering greater exchange and learning between the Institute and international experts in the field of geophysics. This has enabled the Institute to gain a deeper understanding of the latest global developments and breakthroughs in geophysical technology, and showcased its achievements in innovative geophysical research and technology.
