The Institute of Geophysical Exploration has won the Second Prize for Outstanding Paper at the 34th National Natural Gas Academic Annual Conference.
On September 20, the Institute of Geophysical Exploration brought its latest research findings to Suzhou to attend the 34th National Natural Gas Academic Annual Conference. The conference was themed “Driving Innovation to Accelerate the Development of New-Generation Oil and Gas Productivity; Promoting Green and Intelligent Approaches to Boost Efficient Exploration and Development of Natural Gas.” It featured 17 highly specialized keynote reports delivered by renowned academicians and expert scholars from the industry. A total of 304 young science and technology professionals participated in technical exchanges across nine sub-forums covering geological exploration, gas reservoir engineering, gas field development, engineering technology, shale gas, tight gas and coalbed methane, surface engineering, safety and integration of new energy sources, and intelligent oil and gas systems.

During the conference, more than 350 outstanding papers submitted by major oil and gas fields, universities, and research institutes from across the country were presented through oral presentations, poster displays, and on-site evaluations by expert judges. Among these submissions, the geophysical exploration institute’s research paper titled “Practice in Applying Wide-Field Electromagnetic Method for Detecting High-Dip Structures in Deep Shale Gas Reservoirs of the Western Chongqing Area” stood out and was awarded the Second Prize for Outstanding Paper.
This research achievement addresses the technical bottleneck of undeveloped shale gas reservoirs due to unclear fault boundaries, fills the technological gap in the precise detection of steeply dipping structural faults, and opens up a new avenue for tackling complex geological structures at great depths. It will also create new market growth opportunities in the nationwide exploration of high-steepness oil and gas structures.

Meanwhile, the Institute of Geophysical Exploration has set up an exhibition booth showcasing its innovative technological achievements, attracting numerous participating experts and scholars to stop and take a closer look. The booth highlights our institute’s research progress and innovative breakthroughs in natural gas exploration, as well as our strong innovative capabilities in geophysical exploration technologies. This not only lays a solid foundation for promoting our institute’s core technologies and innovative products in the national oil and gas market but also provides robust support for enhancing the influence and competitiveness of Sichuan’s resource brand.

The Institute of Geophysical Exploration remains committed to innovation as its driving force and is dedicated to developing core technologies that will boost the efficient exploration and development of natural gas nationwide. The recognition we’ve received from experts in the national natural gas industry, along with this prestigious scientific and research award, marks a significant leap forward in our innovation capabilities in the natural gas sector and signals that we will wield even greater influence in future energy development and technological innovation. Moving forward, the Institute of Geophysical Exploration will continue to step up its efforts, further strengthen its culture of innovation, vigorously foster new forms of productive forces, and increase investment in scientific research. Guided by addressing key bottlenecks and pain points in the market, we will ensure the sustained translation of research findings into practical applications, driving high-quality development through innovation.
