Good News | The geophysical exploration institute’s project, “Innovative Technology for Electromagnetic Intelligent Exploration of Shale Gas,” has been awarded the Outstanding Innovation Achievement in Sichuan Province’s “Five Smalls” Employee Activity.

Recently, the Sichuan Provincial Federation of Trade Unions released a notice on outstanding innovative achievements from the “Five Small” activities among Sichuan’s workers. The project “Innovative Technology for Electromagnetic Intelligent Exploration of Shale Gas,” submitted by the Geophysical Exploration Institute, was listed among the top winners.


After years of intensive technological research and equipment optimization, this project has developed an intelligent shale gas exploration technology that integrates multiple scales, methodologies, and parameters. It has also pioneered technologies such as electromagnetic phase-based seismic-like imaging and deep-learning-based semantic segmentation for electromagnetic intelligent exploration. By combining artificial intelligence with electromagnetic exploration methods, this approach effectively addresses the challenges of deep shale gas exploration in the karst terrain and complex geological conditions of the Sichuan Basin. The successful application of this technology has significantly enhanced the accuracy and efficiency of shale gas exploration, providing strong support for environmental protection and water resource security. Since its deployment in October 2018, the technology has been applied to more than 500 wells and 3,000 km² of low-resistivity risk exploration areas in the Sichuan Basin, achieving a comprehensive accuracy rate exceeding 90% and generating economic value of approximately 2 billion yuan. At the same time, it has brought immeasurable social benefits to local ecological conservation and water resource security.
