To thoroughly implement the special action "Three Transformations and Three Enhancements" and ensure high-quality execution of initiatives aimed at "transforming mindsets and enhancing market awareness," on July 25, the fracture monitoring team from the Geophysical Exploration Institute traveled to Chongqing Shale Gas Company for an exchange and discussion on fracture monitoring technologies such as wide-area electromagnetic methods and microseismic monitoring. Li Yuegang, General Manager of Chongqing Shale Gas Company, Gu Zhiwen, Deputy General Manager and Chief Engineer of the Geophysical Exploration Institute, and heads of relevant departments attended the meeting.

At the symposium, both sides jointly discussed the effectiveness of various fracture monitoring methods, drawing on practical engineering examples. The fracture monitoring team provided a detailed explanation focusing on the principles of wide-area electromagnetic monitoring, its engineering deployment, data processing procedures, as well as real-time on-site guidance and subsequent evaluation using this monitoring method. They also offered thorough answers to questions regarding the accuracy of electromagnetic logging for downhole positioning.

Li Yuegang welcomed the arrival of the geophysical exploration team, fully recognized their achievements in practical work, and expressed his expectations for their next steps. He pointed out that science and technology are the primary productive forces, and Chongqing Shale Gas Company places great hopes on the application of wide-area electromagnetic methods. He expressed his wish that cutting-edge technologies could provide strong technical support for the development of shale gas in the western Chongqing section of the Sichuan Basin. There is no single “right” solution in geophysics; microseismic monitoring and wide-area electromagnetic monitoring have the potential to integrate their technologies and synergize effectively, striving to achieve a combined effect where one plus one is greater than two.

Each finds beauty in its own way; each appreciates the beauty of others; and together, we share a common beauty. Win-win cooperation is not only reflected in the innovative integration of different technologies but also lies in the mutual exchange and communication among all parties. The Geophysical Exploration Institute will continue to anticipate the needs of our clients and address their urgent concerns. Building on the deep integration across disciplines and fields, we will work closely with Chongqing Shale Gas Company to jointly share the fruits of development brought about by new technologies.
