Illuminating the Path of Youth with the Light of the May Fourth Movement

In his 2023 New Year’s message, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out: “The future of China rests on the shoulders of its youth. When the youth thrive, the nation thrives; China’s development depends on the broad masses of young people stepping forward and taking responsibility.”

As the “May 4th” Youth Day approaches, the Group organized a team-building event for young employees on the afternoon of April 28. Young members from the Geophysical Exploration Institute actively participated in the event. The activity kicked off with a video titled “Messages to Youth.” In four exciting sports events—“Steadfastly Moving Forward,” “Writing the Future,” “Inspiring Hearts,” and “Four-Pronged Efforts”—the young colleagues from the Geophysical Exploration Institute worked closely and unitedly alongside their colleagues from other Group departments, successfully completing each challenge together. During the event, the young participants fully released their stress, vividly embodied the spirit of the “May 4th” Movement, and deeply felt the joy and strength that come from being part of a team.

This event showcased the youthful vigor and positive, healthy spirit of the young members of the Geophysical Exploration Institute, fostering a wonderful atmosphere of unity in planning, working side by side, and achieving success through collective effort. It inspired the young geophysicists to face life with even greater enthusiasm and embrace challenges with confidence.

Starting from the May Fourth Movement a century ago, Chinese youth have continuously contributed their strength to the motherland. As time has passed, today—more than a hundred years later—young people are living in an era of great prosperity. They keep moving forward without pause, refusing to “lie flat” and striving relentlessly on the path to their dreams. Perseverance will always remain the most brilliant hallmark of youth.

At the Institute of Geophysical Exploration, there’s a group of young people like this: They rise at dawn and set forth with unwavering determination; as the evening glow fades behind them, their steps never falter. They climb steep mountain peaks and cross rushing rivers, unafraid of scorching summer heat or freezing winter cold. With their feet, they measure the earth itself—driven solely by the quest to uncover the “treasures” buried deep beneath its surface.

The young team members of the “Wide-Area Electromagnetic Survey Project for Wells Fu201–Fu203 in the Western Chongqing Block of the Sichuan Basin,” serving as the backbone of fieldwork, carry heavy geophysical instruments every day and shine brightly in the frontline. The first-hand, raw data collected in the field serve as the foundation for the project’s groundbreaking technological achievements. These young geophysicists rigorously maintain quality control, striving to gather high-quality raw data and ensuring that they deliver geological results of the highest caliber.

They forge ahead by braving the waves and overcoming obstacles, open up new horizons amid thorny challenges, and achieve remarkable accomplishments through tackling tough problems. It is precisely because of this group of young people that the Geophysical Exploration Institute exudes vitality and is full of enthusiasm.

At the Geophysical Exploration Institute, there’s another group of young professionals—dedicated, striving for excellence, and working together in unity to overcome challenges. As the backbone of indoor data processing and interpretation, they’ve made their own significant contributions to the institute’s innovative development.

The young professionals involved in the fracture monitoring project possess solid geophysical knowledge and a rigorous work ethic, and are well-versed in various data-processing methods and interpretation techniques. Using sophisticated instruments and cutting-edge technological tools, they meticulously process and analyze vast amounts of data, transforming original core technologies through breakthrough trials into practical applications, thereby enhancing project quality and contributing to the high-quality development of the Geophysical Exploration Institute with top-notch projects.

With their wisdom and innovation, they are charting a bright future for geophysical science and writing a brilliant chapter in the vigorous development of the Geophysical Exploration Institute. It is precisely because of this group of young people that the Institute showcases a spirit of positivity, courage to face challenges, and unity in striving forward.

As the fresh blood of the Geophysical Exploration Institute, young people are injecting new vitality into the institute’s scientific research with their hard work and sweat.
