Focusing on the integrated shale gas services sector and driving engineering geophysics to a new level.

On March 25, 2022, entrusted by Sichuan Shale Gas Exploration and Development Co., Ltd., our company’s pre-drilling electromagnetic exploration team for the Southern Sichuan Shale Gas Platform arrived in Luzhou County to conduct exploration of coal mine goaf areas surrounding three shale gas platforms near Luzhou County. The three platforms are located within Luzhou County, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province. The conditions of coal mine goafs and underground roadways in this region remain unclear. To thoroughly investigate and determine the distribution of coal mine goafs around these three platforms—particularly the size, scale, and orientation of coal mine tunnels and roadways—and thereby optimize drilling designs, mitigate drilling risks, prevent safety accidents and environmental pollution, and simultaneously explore hydrogeological conditions such as underground dark rivers and karst caves within the exploration area, our company designed a total of 23.5 kilometers of geophysical profile surveys and a 6 km² geological survey tailored to the specific conditions of each platform.

Due to the actual uncertainties surrounding the mined-out areas, the wide range of coal seam burial depths, and the complex geological conditions on site, this project presents significant challenges and tight time constraints, posing a considerable test for our team. Taking into account the overall circumstances of the project, we have adopted a unique “3+2” integrated exploration approach: starting from shallow to deep, we employ high-density electrical resistivity tomography, transient electromagnetic method, and audio-frequency magnetotelluric method in sequence. Complementing these geophysical techniques with engineering geological and hydrogeological surveys, we are conducting comprehensive, multi-dimensional explorations of unfavorable geological bodies within a depth range from the surface down to 1,000 meters beneath the platform. This approach will provide robust support for issues such as platform site selection, engineering construction, and environmental assessment.

During the project construction, we place great emphasis on both technical and safety management. In terms of technology, we have implemented a three-level quality management system to ensure the reliability and stability of raw data, and our technical achievements have received high praise from the client. Regarding safety, we have adopted a safety management system that assigns specific responsibilities to individual team members, always putting safe production first. As a result, we have achieved zero accidents across hundreds of platform projects. Currently, the field data collection phase of the project is proceeding smoothly and orderly, and we anticipate completing the task successfully within the scheduled timeframe.

Our company has already supported the construction of hundreds of shale gas platforms in the southern Sichuan region. Through practical experience, we have continuously optimized our technical solutions, innovatively adopted a variety of new methods, and independently developed numerous patents and inventions, including “An Elastic Ring Electrode for Reducing Ground Resistance and Its Manufacturing Method” and “A Comprehensive Evaluation and Analysis System for Geophysical Exploration Line Layout Using Multiple Methods.” We have accumulated extensive experience, built a professional geophysical exploration team dedicated to shale gas platform exploration, established a geological and geophysical information database for the southern Sichuan region, and developed a unique core technology system specifically tailored to serve shale gas platforms.

Going forward, our company will continue to serve the construction of the southern Sichuan shale gas platform with our professional technical team. First, we will focus on addressing challenging issues such as the detection of “shallow overburden, karst formations, and coal mine goaf areas,” closely monitoring the cutting edge of industry development, actively collaborating with high-level research institutions, and further introducing and promoting advanced new technologies. Second, we will summarize our experiences, pursue integrated and innovative approaches, and develop distinctive achievements that highlight our unique strengths. We will prioritize supporting research and application projects that have a significant driving effect and can solve critical problems, thereby generating tangible benefits and enhancing our competitiveness. Grounded in our position at the forefront of domestic geophysical exploration for pre-drilling operations, we aim to be pioneers in providing refined exploration services for shale gas drilling platforms in the southern Sichuan region, thus contributing our part to the nation’s energy strategy and development.
