Technological Innovation Starts with Patents | The Institute of Geophysical Exploration Receives Another National Invention Patent Authorization
The “Geological Exploration System Based on Multi-Dimensional Electromagnetic Method Integrating Air-Ground-Well Data,” jointly developed by the Institute of Geophysical Exploration and Chengdu University of Technology, has been granted a national invention patent. This achievement not only fully recognizes the Institute’s R&D capabilities but also exemplifies the innovative spirit of win-win cooperation between the two parties.
China experiences frequent geological disasters that cause severe damage to the ecological environment. Numerous methods have already been developed in related surveying and exploration technologies to study and monitor these hazards. However, current research largely relies on remote sensing technologies and surface sensors to track their surface manifestations, making it impossible to conduct deep subsurface surveys of geological formations.
In response to these shortcomings, this invention patent proposes a geological survey system based on multi-dimensional electromagnetic methods—airborne, ground-based, and borehole— that, while comprehensively considering the three-dimensional spatial structure of geological bodies, integrates electromagnetic measurements across air space, ground surface, and boreholes. This system enables comprehensive analysis of geological bodies, providing high-precision, quantitative surveys of hazard-prone features such as landslides, debris flows, and leakage-induced contamination. It offers a quantitatively computed survey system that supports accurate forecasting of geological hazards and monitoring of environmental pollution issues in China.

The Geophysical Exploration Institute will continue to play a leading and supportive role as a technology-based small and medium-sized enterprise, reinforcing the enterprises’ central position in technological innovation. Meanwhile, the Geophysical Exploration Institute and Chengdu University of Technology will continue to leverage projects as platforms to deepen and broaden their cooperation, further enhancing their R&D and innovation capabilities and achieving win-win outcomes.
